‘Apprentice’ backlash as farm proves success of British cheese

Sir Alan Sugar set his apprentices the task of selling British produce to the French at a traditional street market.

Paul Callaghan and his team were ridiculed for buying sausages and cheese from a cash and carry to sell to the French before ‘Posh Paul’ was fired by Sir Alan.

Representatives from Wyke Farms and Makro decided to take the challenge to prove that British Cheddar can be sold at a French market after watching the show in disbelief.

Wyke Farms is the biggest UK cheese brand in France with their premium Vintage lines being very popular with the French.

The challenge was successful and the team proved they could succeed where Alan Sugar’s apprentices had failed; all of the cheese was snapped up by the French shoppers within the first hour.

Richard Clothier, third generation family member & Managing Director, Wyke Farms explained: “You have to let the French taste the cheddar because they really know their cheeses and buy for flavour, quality and provenance. Authentic English Cheddar is wonderful with a crisp glass of French white wine. Cheers!”

He continued, “Alan Sugar, you know a lot about electronics, but not that much about cheese, and for that reason, you’re fired!”

Wyke Farms are best known for their provenance and the quality of their products.

The company have maintained the art of traditional cheese making on the Somerset farm where the Clothier family have been making cheddar to Ivy Clothier’s same original secret recipe since 1902.

Staying loyal to the families’ heritage and approach to farming, Wyke Farms believes it has ceated a product that Britain can be proud of.

Wyke Farms cheese and butter is made with the milk from their cows grazing the pastures of the Mendip Hills in the centre of the Cheddar making region in Somerset. Products are available nationwide and can be found in Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco.
