Award winning community garden plans expansion

Thanks to the success of a community garden in Calne, GreenSquare will be working in partnership Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to extend the project.

Residents at Page Close in Calne have worked hard to breathe life into the three planters at the estate and have really transformed the look of the area. As a result, the community garden has been awarded ‘Outstanding’ by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ section of their Britain in Bloom Awards twice for the past two years.

Now GreenSquare, along with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, the Friends of Abberd Brook (FAB) and Calne Town Council, is planning to start similar projects at different sites in Calne, starting with Fitzmaurice Square on the Coleman’s Farm estate, and is looking for volunteers to help turn areas into thriving community spaces.

Sue Chapman, Community Involvement Officer at GreenSquare, said: “It’s been great to see so many people get involved with the community garden at Page Close. We hope that we get some enthusiastic young volunteers to join in with this new garden project at Fitzmaurice Square, helping to create a sustainable space for everyone in the community to enjoy.”

For those interested in the project, FAB will be holding workshops throughout February. Visit www.greensquaregroup.com to find out more.
