The Group, which comprises Aragon Housing Association, Rockingham Forest Housing and South Northants Homes, will become a single housing association with almost 12,000 homes across Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire.
Aileen Evans, GUHG’s Chief Executive, said: “This consolidation will give us greater borrowing potential, meaning we can build more much needed housing in the areas in which we operate.”
The Group is forecasting around 300 new properties to be completed this year having already doubled its build programme in 2016/17.
Evans went on to say: “GUHG will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year and unification is the next natural step in our evolution, enabling us to bring all of our services closer together and create a single, stronger organisation. These are exciting times for Grand Union and the unification will allow us to better provide for our tenants.”
Subsidiary Aragon Housing Association was formed in 1994 and is one of the largest affordable housing providers in Bedfordshire and also provides specialist accommodation and support to people with learning disabilities. South Northants Homes owns and manages over 3,000 affordable homes in the region and was formed in 2008. Rockingham Forest Housing joined the Group in November 2016 and owns and manages stock across six local authority districts; East Northamptonshire, Wellingborough, Kettering, Daventry, Northampton and Corby.
Work on the unification has already begun and is planned for completion in October 2018.
