Government recommit to Help to Buy

Statement shrugs off reports of the scheme being shelved and stresses support until 2021.

The government has come out in support of the Help to Buy scheme, with reports circling they could be looking to close it down.

Last week, shares fell on major house builders as it was revealed that a withdrawal of Help to Buy was under consideration.

However, the government has now said this is not the case.

The statement from the Department for Communities and Local Government says: “We remain committed to the Help to Buy equity loan scheme to 2021, ensuring it continues to support homebuyers and stimulate housing supply.

“The government also recognise the need to create certainty for prospective home owners and developers beyond 2021, so will work with the sector to consider the future of the scheme.”
