Landlords stop selective licensing scheme

A landlord group has stopped a selective licensing scheme proposed by its local council.

North Somerset Council recently approved the introduction of  such a scheme to improve poor quality private rented housing in Weston-super-Mare town centre.

This saw the formation introduction of the Somerset Property Network (SPN); a group of landlords who decided to join forces to oppose the scheme.

In two weeks SPN raised £12,000 to take the council to Judicial Review in order to overturn the decision, as they deemed the initial consultation to be perfunctory and unnecessary.

Now, North Somerset Council has said it will not be progressing the scheme as planned. Instead the council will consider additional feedback provided by landlords ahead of a further review.
