Orbit is the first national housing provider to achieve the UK’s highest fire safety certification – and one of only four organisations to hold it .
PAS 7 is a formal fire risk management system pitched as that goes above and beyond standard fire safety management.
Orbit is one of only four organisations to achieve PAS 7 and is the first national housing provider to achieve it.
Caroline Davies, Director of Property Services at Orbit, said: “PAS 7 is the pinnacle of fire safety and complements our existing certifications and our two recent health and safety Gold Awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
“For the last 14 months, teams have been fully focussed on achieving PAS 7 which demonstrates our commitment and drive to the safety culture we have in place at Orbit.
“The holistic nature of PAS7 means that we are confident that it is viewed as absolute best practice.”
Paul Richards, Group Customer Services Director at Orbit, said: “Customer safety is paramount to everyone at Orbit and achieving PAS 7 really positions us as a sector leader in this area.
“It also supports our Customer Promise and our commitment to keeping our customers safe.”
Specialist fire and security advisory firm, BB7, has supported Orbit with its certification process throughout.
BB& CEO Ben Bradford, said: “Fire risk management within our built environment is continually evolving and is a much broader discipline than simply documenting fire risk assessments.
“We have been very impressed with Orbit’s tenacious approach throughout and it is a credit to them that they are the first national housing organisation to receive it.”
MMRA, part of Mott MacDonald, is the UKAS accredited certification body that independently audited and awarded the certification.
Ranjit Davis, Head of MMRA, said: “We’re delighted that Orbit has been awarded PAS 7, an important certification that will improve the management of fire safety in buildings.
“It is great that Orbit is one of the first companies to adopt this certification, leading the way in fire safety and setting a great example for other organisations.”
Orbit will continue to be independently reviewed on PAS 7 each year, to ensure that its fire safety standards are upheld.
