Reshuffle: Gauke removed from DWP role

In the Cabinet Reshuffle, David Gauke has been replaced as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

Gauke has swapped life in the DWP for the Justice department, as Theresa May shuffles her cabinet.

Gauke has been replaced by Esther McVey. He had only been in the role since June 2017.

He was DWP minister during two huge debates on Universal Credit, where he came under pressure from his own side over the welfare reform.

He announced changes to UC under this pressure, with the telephone helpline becoming free and adjustments to the waiting times for payments.
