Tower block blaze breaks out near Grenfell

Eyewitnesses report flames “going up the building”.


A high-rise residential block close to the shell of Grenfell Tower is ablaze – with witnesses describing flames “going up the building”.

Some 60 firefighters are currently at Darfield Way, Notting Hill.

London Fire Brigade’s control room confirmed 27 calls to the incident so far, with fire crews from North Kensington, Kensington, Fulham, Park Royal, Chelsea, West Hampstead, Soho, Hammersmith, and Chiswick scrambled to the scene.

One eyewitness claimed the fire had spread to six floors and was “spreading upwards one side”.

London Fire Brigade said a balcony on the 12th floor was alight, and crews are speaking to residents to reassure them.
