Shauna Hutchinson battled through a tough final to win Young Leaders 2019.
With a passion that impressed the judges from the start, her experience at Network Homes shone through as she urged the sector to “own” the mistakes it makes during her final presentation.
Faced with a room full of her fellow Young Leaders finalists, the Resident Engagement Officer said there was a need for housing associations to “give staff something to believe in.”
Shauna also challenged the sector to think about what they are doing right now to make a positive change.
Creating a new #MADMAC2019, Shauna invited the delegates to “Make a difference, make a change” and start working now to positively impact people and communities.
She also impressed during the Q&A session afterwards, saying that “board members 100% play a key part in ensuring a culture that filtered through the entire organisation.”
The National Housing Federation’s Summit, where the final was held, was once again in awe of our finalists.
All the presentations by the finalists were given a great reception, with the judges acknowledging that the competition was the tightest it has ever been.
The Q&A allowed the finalists to further show their ideas and thoughts on a range of topics in housing such as how to build trust, engage with employees and being open and honest with residents.
Kate Henderson presented the award during her closing remarks of the Summit.
There will be a full write-up of the final in our October edition of the magazine.
