Capoeira lands in Hackney

Hackney residents can get healthy this summer as unique martial arts sessions come to the area.

Thanks to funding from Sanctuary Housing, Hackney Marsh Partnership and Hackney Council, local people of all ages are invited to take part in free capoeira training at Morningside Community Centre delivered by Capoeira Angola Palmares.

Capoeira is a Brazilian-style discipline that includes elements of martial arts, dance, social sports and theatre. It can boost health and wellbeing as well as help build up valuable skills.

Classes take place every Monday at the community centre on Cresset Road, from 6-7pm for children and 7-8pm for ages 16 and over.

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Toby Moore, added: “The training underlines our objective of supporting residents to lead happy, healthy and fulfilled lives. Capoeira can give a boost to both physical and mental wellbeing and I would encourage all of the community to engage in the sport.”

Any resident interested in the capoeira classes can just turn up to any session. For more information email
