Leading regional housing association, Cross Keys Homes (CKH), is taking part in an initiative to support employees who want to join the police as Specials. Volunteers who want to join the Special Constabulary will be supported to complete their training and commit to regular volunteering hours.
Specials are volunteer police officers who wear the same uniform, carry the same equipment and have the same powers as police officers, including the power of arrest. They can have broad and varied roles, often getting involved in crowd control, road safety and tackling anti-social behaviour.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary recognised CKH’s commitment to employer supported policing at a presentation ceremony this week.
Executive Director of Organisational Effectiveness and HR at CKH, Allison Long, said: “Specials have such an important role in our communities, so we’re happy to support any employee who is willing to volunteer their time for the benefit of others. CKH and the Cambridgeshire Constabulary share a core goal, to create healthy, safe communities where people can enjoy living. I’m confident that many of the people who make our work so effective have skills and experience that would be of real benefit to the Specials’ team too.”
Over the coming weeks, employees at CKH will have the opportunity to learn more about the role of Specials and the benefits of becoming a volunteer.
Assistant Chief Constable Dan Vajzovic said: “We are delighted to hear that Cross Keys Homes are supporting the Special Constabulary and are providing their staff with the chance to give back to their communities.
“The contribution that specials make to policing is truly invaluable and allows us to continue providing the best possible service to the people of Cambridgeshire.
“In return it gives those who join the chance to get involved in the exciting world of frontline policing within usual work time whilst gaining professional training, skills and experience.”
