James Main, Chair of the Ongo Communities Board, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to announce that we will be running our community grant scheme for the next three years, and will have £10,000 available for local groups up until 2022.
It has been great to see a record number of applicants for the community grants this year, and it certainly shows the amount of brilliant work going on in North Lincolnshire.
“We’re always pleased to support this work and it’s great to have been able to offer 13 groups funding to help them to continue delivering the brilliant services they offer.”
A celebration event was held on Monday 10 June between 5pm-6.30pm at The Arc, in Westcliff where each group was presented with their funding followed by refreshments and photo opportunities.
This year saw the most applications to date, with 30 groups submitting a video in the hope of securing funding.
Joanne Greenfield of Scunthorpe Samaritans, said: “This is an amazing amount of money that we’ve received and it really will make such a difference to our shop in Ashby. We’ll be able to completely revamp some of the facilities for our volunteers with the money we received.
“I’d absolutely recommend other community groups entering these next year, you’ve got nothing to lose and could potentially secure funding to really make a difference.”
Nigel Clarke, Scout Leader of Kirton Scouts, said: “Getting this money is a real game changer for us. It means we can offer more fun adventures for our group. We’re going to use it o buy equipment to be able to go on more camping trips.
“This community grant scheme is brilliant and will definitely benefit lots of Ongo Homes tenants across North Lincolnshire.”
