Sanctuary Housing’s Maureen’s Gift Fund offers charitable grants to help those who need a financial boost to get their community project up and running.

Charities, resident groups and voluntary organisations can apply for individual grants of up to £1,000 from the fund, which was set up in memory of local community champion Maureen Vince, who passed away in 2010.

Maureen was a parish and district councillor for a number of years, and was heavily involved in many community groups and charities district-wide.

Chris Silvey, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, said: “This initiative offers support and encouragement for local people who want to make life in their community a richer experience.

“Funding is easy to apply for and requires completion of a short application form, which we can support with if required.”

Projects should fit within one of five themes:
• employment, education, skills and training
• health and wellbeing
• community safety and infrastructure
• environment
• financial inclusion

Many projects have benefitted from the fund, including Wyvern Community Transport and Talking Newspapers for the Blind. Raised flower beds for wheelchair users have also been installed in the communal garden at Tyndale House in Hullbridge.

Groups are encouraged to match-fund and must have a formal constitution or legal structure, an equal opportunities policy and a bank account.
