Galatia has made a generous start to the New Year by pledging a year-long donation to a Sheffield food bank.
The repairs and maintenance company has pledged to donate a food package each month to the S2 Foodbank network, to help provide emergency food supplies to vulnerable members of the community.
Galatia made the first donation in December 2013, and for the next 11 months will deliver important food supplies to the S2 Foodbank’s mega centre. The donations will include a selection of items needed by the centre such as tinned food, UHT milk, washing powder and toothpaste, which will be distributed to communities across Sheffield.
The S2 Food Bank is a network of community and faith organisations that are working together to provide emergency food parcels to families and individuals in the Sheffield S2 neighbourhood, who find themselves in short-term financial crisis.
Galatia’s Customer and Community Officer, Kathryn Murdoch, said: “We’re really pleased to be supporting the S2 Foodbank throughout 2014. The New Year is a great time to reach out to people and help those who are in need. We wanted to pledge our commitment to the S2 Foodbank because it directly supports individuals in the communities in which we work.”
Ruth Tobler from the S2 Foodbank said: “We are very grateful for Galatia’s support over the next year. The purpose of the network is to increase the supply of basic food and associated support for those who find themselves in short-term crisis. We need the help and support of individuals, groups and companies, such as Galatia, to ensure we have enough of the basics to deal with the increasing demand we are facing in our communities.”
Willmott Dixon Partnerships formed the joint venture company Galatia – An Acis Willmott Dixon Partnership with affordable housing provider Acis Group in 2012. The company is undertaking planned improvement works, responsive repairs and empty property works, and gas servicing and repairs to Acis homes located in South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
