The successful candidates were welcomed to the housing association’s headquarters in Newton Abbot by chief executive Barbara Shaw and chair Brian Aird.
Frances West, Will Patterson and Sue Coulson will be joining Westward’s board members who work in partnership with the executive team and provide leadership and direction for the organisation.
Commenting on the new appointments, Chair, Brian Aird, said: “I am delighted to welcome three new board members who all share a ‘commercial head’ and ‘social heart’. They are all dedicated to continuing Westward’s long term success and I know that their wealth of experience across related sectors will support us as we go forward with our strategy to 2025.”
Frances West brings a varied career experience to her role with Westward. She started her civilian working life in 2008 after over 20 years in the Army where she was a lieutenant colonel in the Royal Military Police. She moved into local government as head of legal and democratic services and then went on to run a public health and housing department.
Will Patterson brings a wealth of experience in the corporate finance sector and is head of risk and compliance for a social impact fund manager. Will says, “I believe that social housing has a key role to play in ensuring that the local property market provides accessible homes for as many people as possible.”
As with many people in the sector, Sue Coulson ‘fell’ into social housing, courtesy of a temporary appointment in housing benefits, and has now been working in the sector for over 30 years. She has held a number of executive director roles in housing and is also a former director of partnerships at Rentplus.
Westward has 7,500 homes across Devon and Cornwall and delivers a range of housing and support services to the region.
