A development of new Council homes for Northampton’s older residents is beginning to take shape in Lakeview. A £5million project to develop new housing on the former site of Lakeview House care home on Churchill Avenue is being managed by Northampton Partnership Homes on behalf of Northampton Borough Council. It will see the construction of 45 one and two bedroom apartments for people living in Northampton who are over 55.
The design of Lakeview House was chosen by a panel of judges including representatives from the local resident’s association in Eastfield. The contractor for the build is Engie. The main structure of the apartments has been created offsite from specially engineered timber and was recently installed on site.
Helen Town, Asset Management at Northampton Partnership Homes said:
“During the planning our staff consulted with over 700 homes in the area and met up with residents at the local community hub to talk about the plans and take on board their views. We’re really pleased with the feedback we’ve received from residents and the possibilities this new project will bring. Working with Engie, this scheme will provide secure housing to a growing number of older people across Northampton”.
The development is set to be complete by Christmas 2018.
