Prime Minister Theresa May made a visit to Housing Solutions office in Maidenhead on Friday 16 March, to hear about new homes being developed and to meet local residents. Mrs May praised the organisation’s focus on building more homes, describing them as ‘one of the good ones, that are actually building’ and their support for local residents
Orla Gallagher, Chief Executive said “we are absolutely delighted the Prime Minister could visit our offices and meet staff and residents. We have a strong commitment to providing more homes locally and to work with our partners to support local residents to achieve their potential.”
The Prime Minister heard about Housing Solutions’ impressive development portfolio from Director of Development, Jill Caress, who outlined the associations approach to delivering more affordable housing in the South and South East area. Their current development portfolio will see them build over 1,400 new affordable homes in Maidenhead and the surrounding areas by the year 2020. Talking to Housing Solutions CEO Orla Gallagher she described Housing Solutions as “one of the good ones who are actually building. We need to encourage more to do this”
Theresa May met with Housing Solutions customers who have been helped on to the property ladder through the extremely popular, do-it yourself shared (DIYSO) ownership scheme, which is run in partnership with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) – freeing up valuable rented housing in Maidenhead and Windsor.
As part of the visit Theresa May also met some of our talented and ambitious residents who have successfully started their own business. With the support of Housing Solutions, RBWM and Enterprise Cube, this initiative was set up to support our customers into work by starting their own business and some of our successful tenants were delighted to show the Prime Minister their products and services.
Housing Solutions has an excellent track record of helping customers back into work, the organisation has sponsored over 200 customers on to the business start-up courses in partnership with RBWM and Enterprise Cube. The Prime Minister, who is familiar with the Strive Course after attending the Housing Solutions graduation ceremony in 2013, met familiar residents who graduated from the course 5 years ago. Mrs May heard about their business and their success since she gave them their graduation certificates five years ago.
Orla Gallagher, Housing Solutions Chief Executive said “It was fantastic to have been able to welcome the Prime Minister, Theresa May to Housing Solutions, to see first hand the work we are doing to tackle the housing shortage in the area. As well as meet some of our customers who have benefited from the additional support services we offer to help them back into work and onto the housing ladder.”
Prime Minister, Theresa May said:
“It was a pleasure to go back to Housing Solutions to hear of the developments taking place and to meet local residents who have benefited from their affordable housing scheme. I was particularly encouraged to meet tenants who, through a joint initiative with the council, have been able to start up their own businesses and showcase their services and products.”
