A darts champion from Halifax will make his full debut on the PDC Tour after claiming his Tour Carfrom 2020 PDC UK Q-School.

Scott Waites is giving up his Property Repairs Inspector job at Together Housing Group to pursue his dream full-time.

Waites, who won the BDO world title at Lakeside in 2013 and 2016, came through the final day of UK Qualifying School to become a full-time PDC professional for the first time in his career.

The 43-year-old joined the BDO in 2004 and has gone on to become one of the most successful players in the history of the organisation, winning the World Masters and Finder Masters in 2011 as well as more than 20 other ranked titles.

Waites, one of only nine players to have won multiple BDO world titles, is also the only BDO player to have won a PDC major, a feat he achieved at the 2010 Grand Slam.

He will now join the PDC circuit for the next two years.

Scott, who has been working for Together Housing Group for 20 years, said: Q school was one of the hardest days I’ve ever had playing darts and to get through a field of over 500 world class players is one of my best achievements. I hope now with some more practice and dedication I can climb up the PDC rankings.

George Paterson, Director of Property Services, added: “I have worked with Scott for 20 years and we’ve all been following Scott’s career for years and are delighted to see him claim his Tour Card. He has been a– great employee and an asset to the company and will be sorely missed but we wish him all the very best for the future and look forward to seeing what he achieves next.”

Waites was one of 31 players to gain a coveted Tour Card over four days at Qualifying School and was one of six players to have featured in the 2020 BDO World Championship to progress.

He joins Lisa Ashton, Wesley Harms, Martijn Kleermaker, Andy Hamilton and Nick Kenny in departing the BDO circuit.
