Westward’s winter warmth campaign

Westward is visiting customers aged over 60 as part of a Winter Warmth campaign.

Each of Westward’s involvement officers across Devon and Cornwall will be visiting homes up until March 2019 with information and advice about how to stay warm this winter.

They will also have details of local organisations who can help with wellbeing, healthcare and safety in the home.

There are over 2000 Westward homes across the south west with a person over the age of 60 living in the property and so far this winter, Customer involvement Officers have visited over 500 customers as part of the campaign.

The team use the opportunity to check the property condition, identify repairs and discuss housing options.

In January, Customer Involvement Officer Terry Leech visited tenant Mrs Rundle as part of the Winter Warmth campaign:

After the visit, tenant Mrs Rundle said: “These visits are so much better for me, face to face visits are far easier and you find out lots of useful information about where to go if you need financial advice or if you have a problem. We have an issue with our roof which I can tell Terry about. A lot of people my age can’t get out or they’re unstable on their feet so it’s really useful for them come round and visit us.”

Our Customer Involvement team have prepared this year’s winter warmth programme following a number of successful previous programmes. We visit older residents living in general needs properties who otherwise have very little contact with us.

Westward’s Assistant Director of Housing, Hayley Austin said: “Every winter we are able to help customers save money on fuel bills, provide energy-saving tips and sign-post people to our financial inclusion officers.

“It’s really worth taking the time to talk to our involvement officers if they knock on your door because they can also take requests for repairs or listen to any concerns you may have.”

Visits started in October and will continue throughout the winter period, if you do answer the door to one of Westward’s officers, please always ask to look at your visitor’s I.D.
